Olsa Tools Stubby Impact Adapter and External Star Sets: Compact Organization for Impact Work

Two new stubby, impact-rated Olsa Tools sets, a 10-piece adapter kit and a 13-piece external star socket kit, that keep tight-space work organized without a big investment.

Introduction

Olsa Tools has been building out a stubby, impact-rated socket line for a while now, and these two sets push the series to a total of five. Alongside the existing hex sets in metric and SAE and a Torx version, the lineup now includes a 10-piece adapter set (Part #1909, around $47) and a 13-piece external star socket set (Part #1908, around $42).

Everything in the series shares the same core traits: impact rated, stubby length, and made in Taiwan. Both sets also arrive on aluminum rails, so you get instant, quality organization the moment you open the box.

The Stubby Impact Adapter Set: Ten Pieces That Cover the Common Steps

The 10-piece adapter set covers the step-ups and step-downs most impact work actually needs: 1/4-inch square to 1/4-inch hex with a magnet, 1/4 to 1/4 square with a wobble, a 1/4-to-1/4 square extension, 1/4 to 3/8 square, and 1/4 to 1/2-inch square. On the 3/8-inch side, you get 3/8 square to 1/4 square with a magnet for bit driving, a 3/8-to-3/8 wobble, a 3/8-to-1/4 square, a 3/8-to-3/8 extension, and 3/8 to 1/2-inch square.

What you won’t find is something like a 1/2-inch to 1/4-inch driver, and that’s arguably a feature. On an impact-rated set, driving a 1/4-inch socket with a 1/2-inch driver isn’t a combination most people should be using anyway, so leaving it out keeps the set focused.

At around $47, it’s an affordable way to round out an impact setup without paying for sizes you’ll never reach for.

The Stubby External Star Set: Thirteen Sizes From E4 to E24

The 13-piece external star set runs from E4, E5, E6, E7, and E8 up through E12, E14, E16, E18, E20, E22, and E24, all neatly organized on the rail. It’s aimed squarely at tight-space E-Torx fasteners, where a full-length socket plus ratchet simply doesn’t fit.

Socket rail holding short external star sockets in size order

A clever detail is the hex-shaped base on each socket. The smaller sizes can be driven with an 11 mm wrench, while the larger ones fit a 17 mm wrench or a ratcheting wrench. Because the sockets are so short, the entire stack of wrench plus socket stays compact, which is exactly what you want in confined areas.

Practical Ways to Drive the External Star Sockets

There’s more than one way to work with these. Olsa also sells an attachment that holds the sockets, but the hex base opens up alternatives. Once the socket is on the fastener, you can turn it with a plain wrench and work the fastener without pulling the socket off until the job is done, which is especially handy if you don’t have a ratcheting wrench in the right spot.

Normally you’d stack a socket on top of a ratchet, which extends the whole assembly even further. With these stubby sockets, the total length of the driving mechanism stays impressively small.

Should You Add These to Your Kit?

Both sets sit in the affordable range, roughly $42 to $47, and they share the stubby, impact-rated DNA of the rest of the series. Olsa is a Canadian company, which is good news for Canadian buyers who often struggle to find tools featured elsewhere, and Olsa also frequently sells on Amazon, so availability should be reasonably broad.

It’s fair to note that the designs look similar to other brands’ stubby sets, and many of those are made in Taiwan too. But for the price and the organization these offer, they’re a legitimate option rather than a compromise.

Buying Advice

If your impact driver kit has gaps between 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2-inch drives, the adapter set fills them sensibly, including two magnetic holders for bit work and two wobble joints for awkward angles. If you regularly fight with tight-space E-Torx fasteners, the external star set is the more distinctive buy, thanks to the short reach and the wrench-friendly hex bases. Together they make a compact, rail-organized extension of any stubby impact collection.

Conclusion

With these two additions, Olsa’s stubby impact series reaches five sets, covering hex in metric and SAE, Torx, adapters, and external star sockets. For the price, both are easy additions that solve specific, common problems without cluttering your toolbox.
