Olight Warrior S3 Tactical Flashlight Review: Stars and Stripes Edition

A stout tactical light with 2,300 lumens of turbo output, a replaceable tail switch, and a proximity sensor that keeps close-range use safe.

Introduction

The Olight Warrior S3 tactical flashlight arrives in a Stars and Stripes edition that is hard to miss, and underneath the finish there is a genuinely well-thought-out light. It is built for tactical use first, but it works just as naturally as a household utility light or a camp light, and it is one of those tools that feels more substantial in the hand than its 176-gram weight suggests.

Main Strengths

The headline number is the full 2,300-lumen output on turbo mode, delivered efficiently from a compact housing thanks to a total internal reflection (TIR) optic. The shiny reflector behind the lens squeezes serious output out of a small frame.

The control scheme is where this light separates itself from ordinary flashlights. A side switch on the front cycles through modes just like a normal light, and a rear tactical tail switch overrides everything else, letting you jump straight into high or turbo. A half-press steps up to high, another press reaches turbo, and releasing shuts it off unless you tap it to lock the mode on.

The mode spacing is practical: a 1-lumen moonlight mode, a 15-lumen mode rated for about 130 hours of runtime, a 200-lumen mode with roughly 13 hours, an 800-lumen high mode, and turbo at the full 2,300 lumens. A battery indicator is built in as well.

Safety is handled sensibly. Anything close to the lens at these lumen levels is hazardous, so a proximity sensor throttles the output way back when the light is near an object.

Things to Consider Before Buying

A few details are worth weighing before you buy. The head has softened, muted crenellations in what would otherwise be a striking bezel, so the light will not snag on pockets or clothing, which matters if you carry it in a pocket or mount it on gear. Some lights with sharper bezel points catch on fabric, and Olight has clearly thought this through.

The tactical tail switch is replaceable, so you can swap in a pressure switch if you want a different mode of operation beyond hand use. That flexibility is a genuine plus, but it also means the light is designed around two control surfaces, and it takes a few uses to get comfortable with how the tail switch overrides the front button.

Everyday Handling and Carry

At about 176 grams, or a little over six ounces, this is a stout light. It does not feel light in the hand; it feels solid, almost bolt-like. The hexagonal facets on the head keep it from rolling off surfaces.

The reversible pocket clip is handy, and the finish is more practical than it first appears. A brighter, patterned body is easier to find in a dark truck console than an all-black flashlight that disappears the moment you drop it.

Buying Advice

This is the kind of light that earns its place as a truck tool: something kept in the front console area for quick access. If you want one flashlight that covers tactical use, household tasks, and camp duty without feeling flimsy, the Warrior S3 fits that role well.

The soft case included in the package is excellent, and Olight has clearly stepped up its case game across the lineup. If a patriotic finish feels too much for you, the underlying hardware is what justifies the purchase either way.

Conclusion

The Olight Warrior S3 combines real turbo output, a sensible mode ladder, a proximity sensor, and smart details like muted bezel crenellations and a replaceable tail switch. It is a solid, confident tactical flashlight that is just as useful on an ordinary evening walk as it is in a truck console, and the Stars and Stripes edition makes it a bit more fun along the way.
