OEM Tools Multi-Function Pen Kit Review: A Tool-Box Pen With a Lot of Hidden Features

Two heavy multi-function pens with screwdrivers, stylus, level, scales, and more. Solid writing tools for green tool kit fans, with one durability caveat.

Introduction

The OEM Tools Multi-Function Pen Kit is a set of two multi-function pens, a larger one and a smaller one, selling for about 20 dollars, or roughly 10 dollars per pen. Both are substantial pieces made of heavy aluminum, with some parts that appear to be brass or a similarly colored metal. If you are building a green tool kit or simply enjoy pens that do more than write, this set is worth a closer look.

First Impressions

Right away, these pens feel nothing like a cheap plastic ballpoint. The aluminum body gives them real heft, and the design is fairly simple: a pocket clip, a twist mechanism, and a set of hidden tools tucked into the barrel. Some of the internal fittings have a brassy color, which is why the material mix seems to include something beyond aluminum.

The finish is mostly cosmetic rather than fully finished inside, as some cutouts are simply left unpainted. The pens are sold in OEM Tools green, sometimes described as zombie green, which will immediately appeal to anyone matching a green tool collection.

Writing Performance and Everyday Features

Both pens start out as ballpoint pens, and they write just fine. A twist deployment raises and lowers the pen tip, and the kit includes two extra refills in different sizes for the two pens.

The larger pen adds measurement scales along the body: 1/100th of a meter, standard centimeters, inches, and 1/200th of a meter. The larger size makes the centimeter and inch markings easier to read than on the smaller pen.

Both pens also use a rubber end as a stylus for touch screen devices, and both include a built-in bubble level and a pocket clip. It is a simple design, but the weight alone makes these feel like tools rather than throwaway pens.

Hidden Tools Inside

The smaller pen hides a small Phillips screwdriver and a small slotted screwdriver. Unscrew the back end, and the bits are stored inside the barrel.

The larger pen goes further. It has a bottle opener, a bubble level, and at the front end a stylus plus another screwdriver, which you can swap in and out. The bits are friction fit and, honestly, a little hard to get out, but that also means they stay put. There is an O-ring in the assembly too, which adds to the fidget-friendly, take-it-apart character of the pen.

There is also a small flashlight built into the larger pen, essentially a tiny bubble light that protrudes from the front end. However, after one fairly low drop, the flashlight stopped working. The batteries were removed during an attempt to diagnose the problem, and the pen was taken apart to see if it could be fixed. The included warranty runs 90 days, so a repair or replacement may be possible.

Things to Consider Before Buying

The flashlight is the weak point. A single modest drop was enough to end it, and diagnosing the internals is not straightforward. If a built-in flashlight is the main reason you are interested, keep that in mind.

Everything else held up well in use: the pens write well, the screwdrivers work, the level and scales are useful, and the bottle opener on the larger pen is a nice touch. Given that this is an OEM Tools product, there is likely some real quality behind the design.

Buying Advice

Is it worth 20 dollars? If you like this kind of gadget and want to build out a green tool kit, then yes, it is worth it. The pens write well, they look great in green, and the hidden features genuinely earn the multi-function label.

Just treat the flashlight feature as a bonus rather than a guarantee, and remember the 90-day warranty if anything fails early.

Conclusion

The OEM Tools Multi-Function Pen Kit delivers solid writing performance, real heft, and a surprising number of hidden tools for around 10 dollars per pen. The flashlight fragility is a genuine flaw, but for green tool kit builders and multi-function gadget fans, the rest of the package makes it an easy recommendation.
