NFP Design Pen Storage Review: An Impact-Resistant 30 Pen Case and a Classic Wooden Six Pen Case
Two very different storage solutions from Turkey-based NFP Design: a rugged 30 pen impact-resistant case and a lockable basswood six pen case.
Introduction
NFP Design, a pen storage company founded by an architect who has collected pens for over 35 years, has been quietly building a reputation for well-made, thoughtfully designed cases. Based in Turkey, the company sits alongside other respected names in the Turkish fountain pen and stationery scene, and its output is consistently defined by one word: quality.
We recently spent time with two very different pieces from the brand. The first is the Double-A Pencil Bag 30 Piece (Impact Resistant), a large, industrial-strength hard case for up to 30 pens. The second is a more traditional Wooden Six Pen Case with a lock and key. Both are well-built, and both earn a closer look for different reasons.
The Double-A Pencil Bag 30 Piece: Build and Exterior
The name is admittedly not the most inspired, and something may have been lost in translation from Turkish to English. The product itself, however, is far from ordinary. Measuring 40 x 35 x 17 centimeters, the case is made from very hard, durable plastic at a professional level of quality. It feels rugged from the moment you pick it up.

A few exterior details stand out. There is a small area for an identification sticker or tag, and the feet are raised so the face of the case avoids scratches when set down. Two locking clasps secure the lid, and next to them are metal portions for adding padlocks for extra security. A rugged plastic handle makes it easy to carry, though the injection molding leaves a small mark on the handle that could have been buffed out more cleanly. Production is limited: only five units are currently available, in orange, black, yellow, green, and cream.
Inside the Case: Trays, Slots, and Fit
Opening the lid reveals a solid, secure hinge that opens a little past 90 degrees, with the company logo inlaid into the soft rubber on the inside of the top. The storage itself comes in three trays: the top one accented in orange, the middle in yellow, and the bottom in blue. The bottom tray is fixed, and the other two fit in a specific order with small notches to guide placement.
The slots are made from a soft rubber that does a good job of protecting pens, both oversized and small. In testing, very large pens fit well, including a Montblanc 149, a Sailor King of Pen, a Namiki Yukari Royale, a Cross Peerless 125, a Visconti Homo Sapiens, a Leonardo Momento Zero Grande, and a Pelikan M1000. A Delta Dolcevita Oversize was a snug fit, so anything wider will have trouble. A Classic Pens LB5 is a bit too long, and a Namiki Emperor is much too large.

Smaller pens, such as a pocket-sized model, a Kaweco Sport, a Kaweco Liliput, and a Pilot Vanishing Point, may slide around a bit in their slots, but they stay secure. Once the trays are in place and the lid is closed, you could shake the case to your heart’s content without anything bad happening to the pens inside.
Protection and Everyday Use
One honest criticism: the lid is thick and contains a fair amount of wasted space that serves little purpose beyond padding the first tray layer. Utilizing that space would require a redesign, but it does feel like missed potential.
The edge of the case is protected by a strip of rubber which, when the case is closed, creates what appears to be a watertight seal. Combined with the impact-resistant shell, this is a case built to shrug off hard use. It is also one of those products that will probably look good over the years as it picks up scratches, showing that it has been well used rather than abused.

Availability is worth noting: the case is sold on the NFP Design website for around $440 depending on the Turkish Lira conversion rate, and it is listed under “all products” rather than the pen storage section. With only a handful of units in production, it remains a premium specialty item rather than a mainstream offering.

The Wooden Six Pen Case
The second piece is far more traditional: a six pen case made from basswood, with a lock and key similar to what you would find on a jewelry box. The build quality is very nice, and the interior material is extremely soft, which is exactly what you want when storing lacquered or urushi-finished pens.

Where this case shines is capacity for oversized pens. A Namiki Emperor and a Danitrio Trio Genkai, both extremely large pens, fit with plenty of room to spare, alongside a Manuscript-style oversized pen, an Edison Collier Grande, an Omas 360, and a smaller Sakura model in between. This is a product that comes and goes from the NFP site depending on inventory, but when available it retails for around $130, which is very reasonable for something along these lines.
Overall Buying Advice
If you travel with a large collection or simply want serious protection for oversized, valuable pens, the Double-A Pencil Bag 30 Piece is the clear choice, provided you can live with its size, its literal name, and its premium price. If you prefer something refined, compact, and classic for a small rotation of everyday pens, the Wooden Six Pen Case offers excellent value and handles even the biggest pens without complaint. Either way, the craftsmanship across both pieces is consistent and genuinely reassuring.
Conclusion
NFP Design offers two storage paths here: one very much not traditional, and one very much so. Both are well-made, thoughtfully detailed, and fairly priced relative to the quality you receive. For collectors who care about protecting their pens properly, both are easy to recommend.
