The MOZA AB6 and AB9 represent two very different approaches to that experience. The AB6 is a compact 6 Newton meter base designed to be easy to live with, while the AB9 doubles the peak torque to 12 Newton meters and adds mechanical refinements that make it feel noticeably smoother.

What Comes in the Box
The AB6 bundle includes the base itself, a power pack, a USB Type-B to Type-A cable, a data transit cable for connecting other MOZA devices, a manual, a small toolkit, and two extras that the AB9 does not include: the MHG flight stick and a table clamp for securing the base to your desk. Stickers are also included, which are handy for labeling the parts of your desk you need to tighten.
The AB9 base ships with the base, a much larger power pack to drive the extra torque, a USB cable, a data transit cable, a toolkit, a manual, and stickers. It also comes with a carry bag that you will likely use once. Unlike the AB6, there is no bundle option at the time of writing, so you will need to purchase a flight stick and a table mount separately if you want them.

MOZA AB6: The Compact Starter
The AB6 measures 188 x 123 x 163 mm and weighs just under 3 kg. Its all-metal construction around the sides feels lighter than the AB9, and four rubberized pads on the bottom do an excellent job of keeping it from sliding around on a smooth desk. Underneath, there are mounting holes if you prefer to attach it to a sim rig. With just two bolts, it secures easily to a flight sim mount panel, and the rubberized feet provide enough grip to keep it locked in place.
The top panel is all plastic, with a MOZA logo, four illuminated buttons on each side, and two axes that feel surprisingly premium despite being plastic. They are weighted nicely and could serve as a throttle in a pinch, though most buyers will already have a dedicated throttle. The stick connector on top uses a design compatible with the full MOZA lineup, including the MA3X, MH16, and MHG sticks. Some Thrustmaster and Virpil sticks may also fit, though it is worth checking compatibility with the manufacturer before purchasing.
The leather shroud around the connector feels like genuine leather, thicker than the imitation leather found on cheaper gaming chairs. It resembles the leather you would find around a car shifter, which is a nice touch at this price point.
MOZA AB9: The Heavyweight Option
The AB9 is significantly larger and heavier, measuring 227 x 157 x 204.5 mm and weighing 5.43 kg. It is metal all the way around, from the top to the bottom, and every surface feels more premium and solid than the AB6. The front features a small plaque with the serial number, and the side has a recessed design that breaks up the matte finish.
Around the back, the AB9 has the same connectors as the AB6, plus one extra data transit port for connecting more MOZA devices. It also has T-slots down the sides, similar to the rails on a sim rig, which allow you to secure it with T-nuts when using the optional table mount.
The rubberized feet on the AB9 are textured with grooves, but they do not hold as well on a smooth table as the flat rubber feet on the AB6. Mounting to a rig is a similar story, with the same distribution of mounting points underneath. When mounted to a flight sim mount panel, two bolts were enough to keep it secure, even under the full torque output. In fact, the plate itself flexed before the base showed any sign of movement.
The top of the AB9 is a simpler affair with no buttons or axes, just a metal surface and a high-quality leather shroud covering the internals. It is a place to put your stick and your hand, and nothing more.

Mounting and Desk Setup
The AB6 bundle includes a table clamp that locks the base to your desk. It does a decent job of holding the base in place, but there is a fair amount of flex in the lower arm when you move the stick around. You are unlikely to notice it while flying, but it could be more noticeable if you use the base in shifter mode. The manual’s recommended setup also leaves a tight space behind the base, and the USB cable can get pinched quite hard.
The AB9’s table mount is sold separately and uses a different design. It mounts through the T-slots at the back with T-nuts, giving plenty of clearance for cabling underneath. The mount feels much more sturdy than the AB6’s clamp, and the amount of flex is far less, which is impressive given the AB9 outputs significantly more torque.

Software and Configuration
The MOZA Cockpit software is where both bases come alive. It has recently been updated to handle multiple devices plugged in simultaneously, so you can have both an AB6 and an AB9 connected and recognized at the same time. The software can run in direct input mode, where the sim sends force feedback information straight to the stick, or telemetry force feedback mode, where MOZA reads data from the sim and generates its own forces based on factors like angle of attack, speed, and flap position. An integrated mode combines both worlds.
One notable difference between the two bases is that the AB9 has an additional force sensing mode option. This puts the stick into a mode similar to an F-16 fighter, where the stick does not move but instead registers the amount of force the pilot applies. This feature is only available on the AB9 because its larger motors can output enough torque to keep the stick rigid. On the AB6, the motors would not be sufficient to hold the stick in place under heavy input.
The AB6 also has an exclusive top panel configuration page, allowing you to customize the illuminated buttons and axes. You can set the axes to act as an axis, buttons, or a mix of both, and you can control the lighting with options like telemetry, device, or manual modes, plus a range of colors.
The expert settings offer deep customization, including centering options, physics model settings, and trim follow settings that let the stick mirror the in-sim yoke or stick movements when autopilot is engaged. Telemetry force feedback settings let you add effects like dynamic pressure, which simulates the rise in control surface forces as airspeed increases, and elevator weight, which replicates the droop you feel in a Cessna 172.
Force Feedback Performance in the Sim
Both bases use brushless servo motors, but the AB9 takes a different mechanical approach. It uses much larger dual servo motors and a belt reduction stage, which acts as a mechanical damper. This absorbs the tiny magnetic stepping sensation, known as cogging, that is present in the AB6. Even powered off, the AB9 feels fluid and smooth, almost like a high-end belt-driven racing wheel. Powered on, that smoothness continues.
In X-Plane 12, flying a Cessna 172, the AB6 delivers a convincing experience. You feel the elevator droop when the engine is off, the control surfaces firming up as airspeed increases, and the sloppiness returning as you slow down for landing. The cogging is noticeable when you are looking for it, especially during precise movements, but it becomes a non-issue once you are focused on flying. Adding a subtle engine vibration through the software effectively masks it.
The AB9, with the same profile applied, feels buttery smooth by comparison. The first thing you notice is how much smoother it is, with only a very slight texture that you would not notice unless you were specifically looking for it. The extra torque means you need to dial back the force settings, as the same percentages that felt right on the AB6 become too strong on the AB9. Once adjusted, the AB9 provides a firmer, more confident feel, especially at higher airspeeds.

In DCS, flying the F/A-18 Hornet for air-to-air refueling, the AB6 handles the fine pitch and roll corrections well. The cogging is not noticeable during these small inputs, and the spring and damping forces feel appropriate. The AB9 makes the same task feel easier, with a smoother and more refined experience. The extra torque also means you can dial the spring setting down, which reduces the physical effort required to move the stick.
For helicopter flying in the Apache, the AB9 is the clear winner. The force trim release system works well on both bases, but the AB9 holds the stick position more confidently and feels more premium. The extra weight and torque make it better suited to the demands of helicopter flight, especially if you are using a longer stick or an extension.
Which One Should You Buy?
The AB6 bundle is the best value option. You get the base, the MHG flight stick, and a table mount, and you are flying immediately. For many people, 6 Newton meters of peak torque is more than enough, and the cogging becomes a non-issue once you are actually flying. The MHG flight stick holds its own in this price range, and its design is flexible enough for a variety of flying styles.
The AB9 is the smoother, stronger, and more versatile option. It feels more confident, has more headroom, and gives you more room to fly different aircraft without maxing out the force settings. The belt reduction system makes it feel silky smooth, powered on or off. The catch is that there is no bundle, so by the time you add a stick and a table mount, the total cost is significantly higher.

The MOZA AB6 and AB9 are both excellent force feedback bases, but they serve different audiences.
