Introduction

Tool rolls are one of those accessories that either feel thoughtfully made or fall apart the moment you actually use them. The Lockb Tool Roll sits firmly in the first category. It combines waxed canvas craftsmanship on the outside with a bright, modern honeycomb nylon interior, and it is built to be carried and used rather than babied. Priced at $49, it aims at the high-end end of the tool roll market without being the most expensive option around.

Design and Interior Layout

Closed up, the roll presents a clean, solid coverage look. Open it up and the contrast is immediately apparent: the outer shell is classic waxed canvas in various color options, while the interior uses a bright honeycomb nylon that makes tools easy to spot. A single zip pouch sits inside, and the pouch includes a magnet, with a matching magnet in the body of the roll itself.

Along the back are three larger slot pockets. The main tool storage uses elastic cross loops in different sizes, dividing up the fairly equal-sized pouch pockets across the roll.

The example setup shown here uses full-size, though not oversized, tools: a small pick, Knipex TwinGrips in the 150 size, three wrenches in 8, 10, 12, 14, and 15 mm sizes, a PB Swiss full-size driver with bit storage in the back, Knipex Cobalt cutters, a Klein mini screwdriver with a reversible head, a small 3/8-drive socket set with 10, 12, and 14 mm sockets retained by a bolt and wing nut running through them, a Snap-on ratchet, and a mini pry bar.

Why Fold-Overs Matter

The detail that makes or breaks a tool roll is tool retention, and this is where the Lockb design earns its keep. Each pocket has fold-over wings. Without them, a dropped-in tool can simply slide out the bottom when the roll is closed and shaken. With the wings folded over the tools before rolling, everything stays put.

It sounds like a small thing, but it is imperative for a successful roll, and plenty of tool rolls omit it entirely.

Adjustability and Fit

The roll secures with an elegant aluminum hook that fits into any of the slots along the strap. Fully extended, the roll opens up to a fairly large size; cinched down, it shrinks to as small as you need. With the tool load described above, it sits at a moderate, easy-to-carry size. That flexibility is a genuine strength: one roll can adapt to different tool sets instead of forcing you to fit the roll.

Build Quality

Construction is where Lockb justifies its positioning. The roll is double-stitched and reinforced, uses YKK zippers, and the zippers appear to have a cerakote-style finish. The company describes its products as heirloom quality, and the old-world craftsmanship combined with the modern interior supports that claim. The roll is made in Vietnam.

Things to Consider Before Buying

The hook is assumed to be aluminum; titanium it is not, at least not as advertised. If you want to carry very large tools, the fairly equal-sized pockets and elastic layout may not suit oversized items. And while $49 is reasonable against comparable tool rolls where you often get less for the same money, it is still a premium over basic fabric rolls.

Buying Advice

If you want a high-end tool roll for a curated set of hand tools, this one is easy to recommend. The fold-over retention system, adjustable sizing, and YKK hardware address the three most common failure points of the category. For $49, the build quality and design are hard to argue with.

Conclusion

The Lockb Tool Roll is fun to carry, fun to use, and genuinely well made. Waxed canvas outside, bright honeycomb nylon inside, fold-overs that keep tools where they belong, and an adjustable hook closure add up to one of the more appealing tool rolls available today.
