Lochby Pen Storage: Venture Pouch and Quattro Compared

Two waxed canvas pen cases from Lochby, each with a different approach to protecting your fountain pens on the go.

Introduction

Good pen storage does one simple job: it gets your pens from one place to another without scratches, dents, or drama. Lochby makes two cases that approach that job differently, and both are built around the same waxed canvas construction that gives them a nicely weathered look right out of the box. In this comparison we look at the Venture pouch and the Quattro, covering what each holds, how they protect your pens, and which situations suit each one best.

Both cases come in the same three colorways: brown with brown trim, black with black trim, and navy with beige trim. The zippers feel solid, the hardware is well executed, and the waxed canvas has a character that we find appealing, since it does not look brand new even when it is.

The Venture Pouch: Storage With a Dual Purpose

The Venture pouch is the larger of the two, and its standout feature is that it works from both sides. One side is dedicated pen storage with room for five pens, sitting on a honeycomb-pattern padded material that cushions them nicely. A pop of color on the interior lining is a nice touch, and the padding is substantial enough that we would not worry about日常 transport bumps.

In terms of fit, a wide variety of pens slot in comfortably. Very large pens fit with a little room to move around but not too much, while mid-size and smaller pens sit more snugly. Smaller pens tuck in fine as well, though they can slide down into the sleeve if it is not fully filled.

One caveat worth knowing: with all five slots loaded, pens can bump against each other slightly. If you carry two or three pens on one side only, they are well protected and will not touch. With five, it pays to think about which pens you pair together.

The real surprise is the other side. Behind a second zipper sits a separate general-purpose pouch with two larger chambers and four smaller pockets, two of which close with Velcro. Because the two halves are independent, loading the utility pouch does not interfere with the pens on the other side, even when both are fully packed. It is a genuinely dual-purpose design.

The Quattro: Four Pens in a Compact Fold

The Quattro takes a different approach. As the name suggests, it holds four pens in a fold-over format, with the pen sleeves offset so that pens landing on top of each other when folded sit staggered rather than directly touching. It is a well-thought-out layout, though a little contact between pens is still possible, so choose your pairings carefully.

There are limits on size, though. Very oversized pens are simply too large for the sleeves and poke out of the top, and even large pens are a squeeze you should not force. Standard-size and moderately large pens fit well, and smaller pens slide down but are easy to push back up from the bottom, so nothing gets lost or trapped.

The outside adds a bit of extra utility: a wrap-around pocket suited to something small, and a Velcro pouch that connects to a larger pocket behind it, so the two can be used together. When folded shut, the Quattro is a neat, compact package that slips into a bag without taking up much space.

Pricing and Availability

The Venture pouch is priced at $44 and the Quattro at $39. Both are available from a number of different retailers, including specialist stationery shops that carry the wider Lochby range. At these prices, both sit firmly in accessible territory for what is genuinely durable, well-made storage.

Which One Should You Buy?

The choice comes down to what you carry. If you want five pen slots plus a separate utility pouch for accessories, cables, or small notebooks, the Venture pouch is the more versatile option and justifies its slightly higher price. If you carry a smaller rotation of up to four standard-size pens and value a compact fold, the Quattro does that job elegantly.

For larger pens, note the split: oversized pens fit in the Venture pouch but not in the Quattro. That alone may settle the decision for some buyers.

Conclusion

Both Lochby cases deliver on build quality, with pleasant waxed canvas, solid zippers, and padded interiors that treat pens with care. The Venture pouch wins on versatility and capacity, while the Quattro wins on compactness and simplicity. Whichever way you lean, both are easy cases to recommend for anyone who wants dependable portable pen storage.
