From a jungle-themed custom cake to plastic-free chewing gum, five trending Indian brands put to the test with honest scores for each.

Introduction

We picked up five trending Indian brands spanning gifting, tea, gum, popcorn and energy bars, and tested each one honestly. Some delivered far beyond expectations, while others left us wondering about quality control. Here is how each one scored, and who each product actually makes sense for.

Creme Castle Jungle-Themed Cake

Creme Castle offers a huge range of designs on its website, from classic red velvet to elaborate themed cakes. We ordered the jungle-themed cake, which arrived within one day, beautifully packed. The detailing matched the website listing almost exactly, with a lion, an elephant, and an especially cute zebra and donkey duo.

Customization works differently than you might expect: you cannot pick or remove individual animals from a design, but you can choose the flavor inside. With so many themes available, most people should find something that fits their occasion.

Taste-wise, it is not spectacular, but it does the job well. Considering the paint work, the detailing, and the one-day delivery, the price felt entirely justified. We rated it a 10 out of 10.

Cup Gi Rose Cardamom Green Tea

Cup Gi takes tea seriously, with beautiful packaging, lovely illustrations, and genuinely interesting flavors. We tried the Rose Cardamom variant, a pack of five single-serve cups priced at ₹100, which works out to ₹20 per cup.

The design is genuinely clever. Each cup has a mesh at the bottom, and beneath it you can see real rose petals, cardamom, and tea leaves. Preparation could not be simpler: add hot water up to the mesh, swirl it five times, then fill to the top. It is the kind of thing you could casually serve to relatives on a train journey and earn instant approval points.

The aroma is pleasantly rosy, and the flavor is mildly sweet thanks to added stevia leaves. Even as someone who is not normally a green tea person, this was easy to drink: light, not bitter, and not harsh at all. Combined with the excellent design and packaging, this also earned a 10 out of 10.

Gud Gum Activated Charcoal Mint Gum

Gud Gum is a plastic-free chewing gum made with all-natural ingredients, positioned as a cleaner alternative to conventional gum. The outer packaging is genuinely nice, but there is a catch: the pack we received contained only 8 pieces at a price point where a conventional pack offers around 15. That makes it very expensive per piece, and the small inner packet does feel a bit flimsy.

The charcoal mint flavor itself tastes good, and the ingredients are clean, so there is nothing to complain about on the product itself. The question is purely whether you are willing to spend that much on gum. For people who chew gum regularly and care about avoiding plastic, it may make sense. For occasional chewers, it is hard to justify.

One genuinely thoughtful touch earns it extra credit: the pack includes small disposal sheets so you can wrap up and discard your gum after chewing. That is something everyone secretly wants. Overall we rated it 6 out of 10, with 5 for taste and one extra point for the disposal idea.

Homemade popcorn tossed with seasoning in bowls on a kitchen counter

The Popcorn Company Artisan Popcorn DIY Kit

This kit includes popcorn kernels and six different seasoning mixes, including hot and sweet ketchup, salted butter, a spice mix, papdi chaat, peri peri, and barbecue. There are clear microwave and cooker instructions, and the kit even includes popcorn tubs, though we preferred our own.

Unfortunately, quality control let this one down. The seasoning sachets came in wildly mismatched quantities, the butter sachet looked half empty, and one seasoning packet arrived opened inside its plastic wrapping, which was genuinely unacceptable. The sticker quality felt cheap and some boxes arrived unsealed.

The popcorn itself fares much better. The papdi chaat flavor was the standout: tangy, spiced, with a lemony note, without making the popcorn soggy. The cheese flavor was just okay despite a generous amount of seasoning. The papdi chaat flavor alone could rate around 9 out of 10 for its uniqueness, but considering the packaging issues and inconsistent quantities, we rated the brand overall at 4 out of 10. There is simply too much that needs fixing.

Chocolate energy bars unwrapped beside their packaging on a desk

Rice Energy Bars

The Rice energy bars come in two flavors, Ramsoo and Choco Brownies, and a full box of four pieces costs ₹300. The packaging is the weak point here: the colors are dull and drain energy rather than project it, which is odd for a brand whose bars advertise a triple shot of natural energy.

Inside, though, things improve considerably. The bars look quite pretty, and the blend includes caffeine and Ragi. The Ramsoo flavor tastes like a solid chocolate coffee energy bar rather than anything distinctly ramsoo-flavored, but taste-wise it is genuinely good: the kind of bar you could happily finish in one sitting if energy bars were your thing.

If the packaging were stripped of branding entirely, we could not tell which brand made it, which says the flavor stands on its own. We rated it a 10 out of 10, even if the packaging designers could use a pep talk.

Overall Buying Advice

If you want a memorable custom cake with reliable one-day delivery, Creme Castle is an easy pick. Cup Gi makes a lovely, low-effort tea gift for anyone who prefers a light, non-bitter brew. Gud Gum suits committed gum chewers who value natural ingredients and do not mind paying a premium. The Popcorn Company kit has a brilliant papdi chaat flavor, but wait for the packaging and quantity issues to be fixed before ordering. Rice energy bars are worth trying for the taste alone, dull wrappers notwithstanding.

Conclusion

Three of the five brands genuinely impressed: the custom cake, the single-serve green tea, and the energy bars all earned top marks. Gud Gum is a nice idea at an awkward price, and The Popcorn Company has real flavor potential undermined by sloppy quality control. Spend where the execution matches the idea.
