Introduction

It has been a slow stretch for tool deals, but a few worthwhile prices have started to surface. DeWalt stock has finally returned in volume, several Atomic and FlexVolt tools have come down, and a couple of clearance finds are worth knowing about even if the discounts are not dramatic yet. Here is what currently stands out and what is better left for the holiday sales.

DeWalt 6Ah Flexible Battery Kit

The best deal spotted recently is the 6Ah Flexible battery bundle at $179. That gets you a 6 amp hour battery at 20 volts, which works out to roughly a 2 amp hour battery when running 60 volt FlexVolt tools, paired with a 6 amp rapid charger. For anyone already invested in the platform, that is a strong standalone price and one of the better Flexible battery offers seen in a while.

A useful rule of thumb when evaluating battery deals is aiming for around ten dollars per amp hour. By that measure this bundle holds up well.

DeWalt FlexVolt Advantage Angle Grinder and Reciprocating Saw

The FlexVolt Advantage line sits at $189 for these tools. The naming is admittedly confusing: FlexVolt Advantage means the tool runs on a standard 20 volt battery but delivers extra power when paired with a FlexVolt battery. You get the angle grinder and the reciprocating saw at the same price, and both make sense if you want a tool that scales with the battery you feed it.

DeWalt Atomic Ultra Compact Impact Driver

The Atomic ultra compact impact driver has finally dipped in price, coming in at $85. The Atomic line also includes a 3/8 inch ratchet and a cutoff tool, though the cutoff tool was $200 during the holiday sales and is worth waiting on. It will likely see better pricing later in the year.

DeWalt Atomic Impact Wrench Kit

At $299 there is an Atomic impact wrench kit that includes one PowerStack battery, likely the compact 1.7Ah pack based on the packaging, plus a ratchet and a few small bits and accessories. Bundles like this are a reasonable way to pick up the tool and a premium compact battery in one purchase.

Makita LED Spotlight on Clearance

A Makita LED spotlight has been appearing on the clearance shelf at several locations, coming down from $129 to $117. That is not a steep drop, and it is not really a compelling deal yet. Comparable options can sometimes be found around the $100 mark brand new, so this one is best left alone unless it keeps falling.

Milwaukee Barrel Grip Jigsaw

One genuinely interesting find is the Milwaukee barrel grip jigsaw at $200. It is not something that turns up in person very often, and for anyone who prefers the finer control of a barrel grip body style, it is worth tracking down.

Husky 10-Piece SAE and Metric Wrench Set

The Husky 10-piece SAE and metric wrench set is on sale, not clearance, at $20 down from $32. That is a solid price for a starter combination set, and the kind of basic hand tool that earns its place in a bag or drawer without much thought.

What to Skip for Now

A couple of items are not worth buying at current prices. The DeWalt cutoff tool was cheaper during holiday sales, and the Makita spotlight is only marginally discounted. Two 5Ah FlexVolt batteries for $300 is also better as a holiday purchase; that works out to $60 per amp hour, well above the ten-dollars-per-amp-hour target. On gloves, the Firm Grip DuraKnit pairs have shown almost no durability and are worth avoiding.

The good news is that this slow period is temporary. As the holidays approach, expect a much stronger wave of deals that make it easier to pick up everything you need for the year in one go.

Conclusion

Right now the standout buys are the $179 DeWalt 6Ah Flexible battery kit, the $85 Atomic impact driver, the $299 Atomic impact wrench bundle, and the $20 Husky wrench set. The FlexVolt Advantage tools at $189 are solid if you need them now, while the Makita spotlight and the two-battery FlexVolt bundle are better saved for the holiday sales.
