Hilti Nuron 22V Lineup: Six Cordless Tools That Stood Out
Hilti's Nuron battery platform brings 22V and 2x22V configurations to a wide cordless range. Here are six tools worth a closer look.
Introduction
Hilti’s Nuron launch was one of the largest cordless tool rollouts in recent memory, with roughly 70 mostly brushless tools introduced around a single 22V battery platform. We spent hands-on time with a broad sample of the lineup, and six tools in particular left a strong impression.
The Nuron Battery Platform
Nuron tools run on 22V and 2x22V configurations, so handheld tools and larger equipment share the same batteries. The battery range covers a 2.5Ah pack, a 3.95Ah pack, a 7.9Ah pack, and a triple-stack pack around 12Ah, with most packs built on 21700 cells. Used in pairs, two packs deliver more power with a lower current draw, which is easier on demanding tools like power cutters and demolition hammers.
One compatibility note: Nuron batteries do not work directly with older Hilti 22V tools. A BA22 battery adapter bridges the gap, but it is bulky, roughly the size of a 2.6Ah pack, so it makes for a clunky interface. The platform launched in Canada and the USA on January 12, 2022, with shipments starting in March and a global launch planned from 2023.

Hilti TE 2022 Breaker Hammer
The TE 2022 made quick work of a concrete slab during testing. It packed a real punch and showed enough run time to get a meaningful amount of demo work done. With a 35-minute recharge time on the packs using Hilti’s 8A charger, a few sets of batteries could keep you off air compressors or cords for most small-scope demolition work.
Hilti DSH 622 Power Cutter
The 14-inch DSH 622 power cutter runs on a pair of 22V Nuron batteries and looks and feels like a gas cutter. It sliced concrete slabs, blocks, and stacks of 1-inch rebar. Using a rocking motion, a tester cut through a 16-inch section of 4-inch slab in around 45 seconds, and a piece of 1-inch number eight rebar fell in just 15 seconds. No matter what we threw at it, it cut smoothly and the weight felt very manageable.
Hilti SR 422 Reciprocating Saw
The SR 422 is a one-handed reciprocating saw that we used across a variety of applications, including overhead cutting. It fills a clear gap as an updated counterpart to the 12V SR 2A12, and it shows enough juice to justify the upgrade for trim and light demolition tasks.

Hilti SC 30WL22 Rear Handle Saw
The SC 30WL22 rear handle saw delivered plenty of power and torque to the blade, cutting through multiple sheets of plywood, OSB, HDF, and MDF board. The side-mounted battery stays out of your way and shifts the weight forward, which we liked. There is also a plastic rafter hook and a somewhat thin but wide front handle. Overall, this Nuron-powered saw should be a strong rear-handle contender.
Hilti AG 4S22 Angle Grinder
The AG 4S22 brings an updated 3D ATC automatic torque control system that switches the tool off and activates the disc brake on sudden uncontrolled movement in any direction. It also includes Hilti’s SenseTech system, which detects when the operator’s hand is removed and engages the electric brake. That combination merges the safety of a paddle switch grinder with the convenience of a lock-on slide switch for the first time. We tried to trip the system up several ways, multiple times, and it worked consistently and intuitively, even while wearing gloves.

Hilti NUN 5422 Crimping Tool
Hilti also rolled out a large set of cutting and crimping tools aimed at plumbing and electrical trades, supporting at least RLS and ProPress crimping heads. The NUN 5422 electrical crimping tool was among the tools we tested on site, alongside copper wire cutters, ProPress copper pipe press tools, and RLS copper press tools. For tradespeople already invested in press fittings, this is one of the more interesting corners of the Nuron platform.

More of the Nuron Lineup
Beyond these six, we got hands-on time with a long list of additional tools: the SR 622 reciprocating saw on 2x4 lumber, the SC 4WL22 6.5-inch circular saw making confident crosscuts, die grinders on stainless steel pipe, nibblers on steel roofing, the SE0 622 drywall cutout tool, the SF 6H22 hammer drill driving 1-inch spade bits through 2-by lumber, the SD 622 impact driver sending coated deck screws through 4-inch thick lumber, the SD 500022 drywall screw gun with an SDM2 collated attachment, the SC ML22 metal cutting saw on square steel tubing, the GTB 6x22 belt sander on stainless pipe, the HD 522 smart dispenser for epoxy anchors, and even a new 22V vacuum. There were simply too many tools to cover in depth here.
Buying Advice
If you are already using older Hilti 22V cordless tools, plan for the BA22 adapter or a gradual transition, since Nuron batteries are not directly backward compatible. If you are starting fresh, the shared 22V and 2x22V battery ecosystem is the main draw: one battery platform covering handheld tools up through power cutters and demolition hammers. Heavy-duty users should prioritize the dual-battery tools like the DSH 622 and TE 2022, while electricians and plumbers will find the crimping and press tool range particularly compelling.
Conclusion
The Nuron platform is more than another battery system. With a wide brushless lineup, flexible 22V and 2x22V power delivery, and a battery range from 2.5Ah to roughly 12Ah, it gives both trades and serious DIY users a single ecosystem to grow into. The six tools above are a strong starting point depending on your trade and workload.
