Hercules 20V Tools Review: Dual Power Shop Vacuum and Ultra Torque Impact Wrench

Two Hercules 20V tools put to work on a truck suspension project and around the shop, with honest notes on power, warranty quirks, and where the line still falls short.

Introduction

Hercules, Harbor Freight’s pro-focused tool line, has been quietly building a reputation for delivering serious performance at prices that undercut Makita, DeWalt, and Milwaukee by a wide margin. Two recent picks, a dual power shop vacuum and a high torque impact wrench, offer a good snapshot of what this brand does well and where it still needs work. After roughly two weeks of regular use, including a suspension job on a 25-year-old truck, here is how both tools stack up.

Why This Line Caught My Attention

The appeal starts with price. The shop vacuum landed at $99 for the tool, battery, and charger, while the impact wrench kit came in at $197. Together, the whole setup cost just under $300 for two tools, two batteries, and two chargers. Comparable Makita high torque impact wrenches run well over $300, and DeWalt and Milwaukee equivalents typically exceed $250.

That value extends across the line. Hercules batteries are notably cheap, a two-pack costs roughly $79, and the flagship hammer drill and impact driver combo kit sits around $260 when most competing brands charge around $400. Used and even new Hercules tools on the secondary market are similarly inexpensive, with grinders sometimes found for around $60 and impact wrenches near $120.

Hercules 20V Dual Power Shop Vacuum

This vacuum runs on either an 18V/20V slide battery or standard plug-in power, which makes it flexible for quick cleanups. Hanging a TV, trimming debris around a work area, or cleaning out a vehicle interior are exactly the jobs it handles well.

The design addresses several pain points found in the closest competing dual power vacuum. The hose connection uses a clip rather than a twist-and-click fitting that could slowly work its way loose, and the battery interface accepts both battery types without the tight, awkward fit some competitors suffer from. Onboard attachments, including a carpet cleaner nozzle, snap in with a satisfying positive click and stay put instead of rattling loose.

A blower side doubles the usefulness: plug it in and it becomes a compact blower for sweeping a work area before starting a job.

Hercules Ultra Torque 1/2 in. High Torque Impact Wrench

The Ultra Torque is the standout of the pair. Across two weeks of suspension work on an old truck, it removed every bolt it faced, including fasteners that would normally have required a blowtorch to loosen. Equally important, nothing broke along the way.

The tool offers three speed settings plus a reverse mode that keeps removed bolts from spinning off the anvil. The speed selector button is thick and easy to operate with gloves on, though in practice speed three covers almost all real-world use. Build quality has held up well under genuinely rough handling.

With a five-year tool warranty and a three-year warranty on batteries and charger, this is one of the tools where Hercules’ strongest warranty tier applies.

The Warranty Catch

Here is the frustrating part of the Hercules lineup: warranties are not consistent across tools. Brushless tools carry a five-year warranty, batteries and chargers get three years, but the non-brushless shop vacuum carries only a 90-day warranty. Buying two tools from the same brand on the same day can mean very different coverage.

The flip side is that the warranty process itself is excellent. Instead of shipping tools to a distant service center and waiting for approval, you simply walk back into the store with the tool and receipt and get a replacement off the shelf. For heavy-duty tools in particular, that simple exchange model is arguably among the best in the industry.

Buying Advice: Worth Adding Hercules to Your Bench?

For anyone who needs core heavy-duty tools rather than a full 200-plus tool ecosystem, Hercules is a strong bet. The value is real, the Ultra Torque in particular punches well above its price, and the top-tier warranty and exchange process are genuinely good.

Two caveats deserve attention. First, the tool selection is thin, with roughly 50 tools in the 20V line and obvious gaps: no mid-torque impact wrench, no 20V ratchet, and several subpar entries beyond the impact wrench range. Second, the charger is slow. Despite being labeled a fast charger, it charges at 4 amps and takes a few hours, whereas a standard Makita charger pushes 9 amps and finishes most batteries in around 45 minutes. Charging is also fanless, so batteries charge slowly after a hard day’s work.

Conclusion

The Hercules 20V line delivers impressive quality and power at a price the major brands cannot match, and the Ultra Torque impact wrench is an easy recommendation for anyone doing automotive or heavy bolt work. The dual power shop vacuum is a smart buy too, as long as you understand its 90-day warranty. Is the line worth converting your entire tool collection over to? Probably not yet. But is it worth owning a few Hercules tools where the value and power make sense? Absolutely.
