Introduction

Battery-powered nailers have come a long way in the last few years, and the market is crowded with options. Flex has jumped in with a complete lineup of 24V cordless nailers and staplers, covering everything from delicate trim work with a 23 gauge pin nailer to heavy-duty cable fastening with a 3/8 inch stapler.

We looked at every tool in the range. Here is what stands out, what works well, and a few quirks worth knowing about before you buy.

One thing worth checking before purchase: for 2024, the entire lineup was covered by a lifetime service agreement, so confirm whether that carries over before you commit.

Flex 23 Gauge Pin Nailer

The 23 gauge pin nailer runs on Flex’s 24V platform and accepts both the stack lithium and the standard cylindrical 24V battery packs. Two no-marking tips come with the tool and attach directly to the nailer.

At 1.75 lbs it is small for what it is, though not the smallest battery-powered pin nailer available. Loading the pin clip is straightforward, the safety mechanism is well placed, and the tool fired pins cleanly and consistently in testing, leaving heads proud or sunk exactly where the depth setting put them.

One design quirk: the depth adjustment knob sits under a latch that looks like a quick-release jam cover but is not. You open the latch to adjust depth, which is a bit strange but does prevent accidental bumps.

Like most pin nailers, this one is single-shot only, but it has proven flawless in regular use.

Flex 15 Gauge 34 Degree Angled Finish Nailer

The first of the three finish nailers, the 15 gauge angled model uses digital controls positioned on the back of the unit. A quick press of the power button brings it to life, and a second button toggles between single-shot and bump-fire mode.

Loading is simple with a spring-loaded canister that pushes nails forward and holds them in place. A quick jam release on top makes clearing misfires easy, and all three finish nailers share this feature.

It fires smoothly and consistently, with bright work lights illuminating dark corners and tight spots.

Flex 16 Gauge 20 Degree Angled Finish Nailer

This model is very similar to the straight nailer, with the digital controls placed underneath the trigger just above the base. It shares the same power button, mode toggle, spring-action loading, quick jam release, and incremental depth adjustment.

That depth adjustment deserves special mention. Instead of a continuous knob, Flex uses a stepped switch that adjusts depth in clean increments, making it easy to dial in exactly the setting you want and repeat it. Every nailer in this lineup uses this system except the pin nailer.

Flex 16 Gauge Straight Finish Nailer

The 16 gauge straight finish nailer behaves much like its angled siblings. It fires very smoothly in single-shot mode, and bump mode is genuinely satisfying: hold the trigger, press the nose, and the fastener sinks cleanly. It even punched through a knot without stalling once the depth was set properly.

Depth adjustment worked exactly as intended, leaving fasteners proud at the top setting, flush in the middle, and deep at the bottom. Three work lights around the nose make it easy to see what you are doing even in darker, tighter areas.

All three finish nailers in the range fire very well and very smoothly, and it is hard to find fault with them.

Flex 18 Gauge 1/4 Inch Stapler

The 18 gauge 1/4 inch stapler shares the same digital control layout, three work lights, and stepped depth adjustment as the finish nailers, plus three bump pads to protect the work surface.

Loading is a simple push-and-drop process, and the tool kept the same smooth firing character as the rest of the lineup. With the 2.0Ah stack lithium battery installed, it stays extremely light and easy to handle for long sessions.

Depth testing showed the same reliable pattern: fasteners standing proud at the top setting, flush in the middle, and fully sunk at the bottom, with bump-fire mode producing clean, consistent results.

Flex 3/8 Inch Stapler

The 3/8 inch (10mm) stapler is the odd one out in the best way. This tool comes in handy across many trades, and even for jobs like hanging Christmas lights. Loading is a one-handed squeeze-and-slide job that takes seconds.

The standout feature is something we have not seen from other manufacturers: a reference indicator on top of the tool. A small staple graphic moves relative to a line representing the work surface as you scroll the depth wheel, giving you a visual reference of how deep the staple will sink before you fire. It is not fast, but it is a genuinely useful touch.

Two work lights on either side provide good visibility, and bump fire works as expected. Like every 3/8 inch stapler, it will not sink fasteners as deep as a narrow-crown tool, but it does exactly what it should, consistently.

Overall Buying Advice

Across the lineup, a few themes hold up. These tools are all surprisingly quiet, lighter and less bulky than you would expect, and clearly well designed. The stepped depth adjustment is a standout shared feature, and the extra rubber no-mar pads Flex includes with many of these tools are a welcome touch. The 2.0Ah stack lithium battery keeps the whole range nimble.

The main caveat is timing: the lifetime service agreement applied to 2024 purchases, and it is not confirmed for later years, so verify coverage before buying.

Conclusion

Flex has built one of the most complete cordless nailer and stapler lineups available, with consistent design, smooth firing, and thoughtful details like the incremental depth adjustment and the 3/8 inch stapler’s depth reference indicator. If you are already on the Flex 24V platform, these are easy recommendations within their categories.
