Four New Flex 24V Tools for 2023: Compact Bandsaw, Trim Router, Hammer Drill, and Mid Torque Impact Wrench

Flex expands its 24V line with four newly announced cordless tools built around compact designs, brushless motors, and strong torque numbers.

Introduction

Flex opened the year with a wave of new 24V cordless tool announcements, adding four more tools to a line that had already grown with several releases just a week earlier. The new arrivals include a compact bandsaw, a trim router aimed squarely at woodworkers, a compact hammer drill, and a mid torque impact wrench. All four lean into the same theme: shrinking proven 24V performance into smaller, lighter bodies for tighter workspaces. Here is what each one offers and who it makes the most sense for.

Flex 24V 2.5-Inch Compact Bandsaw

Flex already announced a full-size bandsaw with a five-inch cutting capacity. This new compact version drops to a 2.5-inch capacity and, according to Flex, is 27 percent more compact and 43 percent lighter than its larger counterpart. That size reduction is the whole point: it is built for cutting conduit, rod, pipes, and strut in tight areas where a full-size saw simply will not fit.

Key features include a high-power brushless motor for fast cutting speeds, a variable speed trigger for multiple speed options, and a quick-release tool-free blade cover. There is also an LED light on the front and a rafter hook for hanging the tool between cuts.

For anyone running conduit or strut work regularly, the compact form factor plus the tool-free blade changes should make day-to-day handling noticeably easier.

Flex 24V Trim Router

The trim router is arguably the most interesting of the four for woodworkers getting into the Flex platform. It ships as a kit with a 24V 3.5Ah Stacked Lithium battery and a 160-watt fast charger, with the lighter battery chosen specifically to keep overall weight down.

The feature list is solid. Flex highlights an innovative spindle lock/shaft lock system for fast, easy bit changes, which also prevents accidental startups for added safety. The 1.5 max horsepower brushless motor is designed to deliver constant speed under tough conditions, and the variable speed dial offers six settings from 15,000 up to 31,000 RPM.

The quick-release collar delivers depth adjustment accurate to 1/64 of an inch, and there is an adjustable edge guide for convenient parallel cuts along a straight edge. On the runtime front, Flex claims best-in-class average runtime of 275 feet per charge with a 5.0Ah battery, tested in red oak with a 3/8-inch round-over bit, which is a demanding test material.

Flex FX1231-1A 24V Half-Inch Two-Speed Compact Hammer Drill

The compact hammer drill answers a common complaint about Flex’s earlier hammer drill: that it was a bit too big and bulky. The new FX1231-1A is 9 percent more compact and 19 percent lighter than the larger FX1251, while still delivering 650 inch-pounds of torque and exceptional runtime from the included 2.5Ah battery.

It uses a half-inch full metal ratcheting chuck for long-lasting reliability, and Flex claims it can drill up to 85 5/16-inch holes in concrete with the included battery. The design keeps a compact head for tight spaces, includes an LED light, and features an analog switch rather than a digital interface.

It comes as a kit with the 2.5Ah battery, which makes it an easy entry point for concrete drilling and general hammer drilling on the Flex platform.

Flex FX1451-1F 24V Half-Inch Mid Torque Impact Wrench

The final announcement is the FX1451-1F half-inch mid torque impact wrench, sold as a Stacked Lithium kit with a 3.5Ah battery and charger. It delivers 600 foot-pounds of fastening torque and 750 foot-pounds of nut-busting torque, which is plenty for around-the-garage work like lug removal and stuck fasteners without stepping up to a full high-torque model.

Flex has also patented a vibration suppression system for improved ergonomics, and the wrench offers two auto control modes: a bolt auto-stop mode that prevents over-tightening, and a braking mode that stops the tool when a bolt is loosened, helping avoid stripped fasteners or thrown bolts. Three speed modes add more control while fastening, and the digital interface with LED light rounds out the package.

Buying Advice

No pricing or availability dates have been announced yet for any of these four tools, so it is worth waiting on concrete figures before committing. As a general rule, the compact bandsaw suits electrical and mechanical trades cutting conduit and strut in cramped spaces, the trim router is the natural pick for woodworkers entering the Flex platform, the compact hammer drill is the lighter everyday drilling option, and the mid torque impact wrench covers garage-level fastening without the bulk of a high-torque model.

Conclusion

These four releases show Flex continuing to expand its 24V line with compact, feature-rich versions of tools tradespeople and woodworkers actually use daily. With strong torque and runtime claims across the board, they are worth watching closely once pricing and availability are confirmed.
