Facom Wrench Holder (19-8mm): A Smart Design With a Practical Flaw

A well-designed ratcheting wrench organizer that locks wrenches onto a sized tube, but sizing quirks and a missing 15mm limit its usefulness.

Introduction

A portable wrench organizer sounds like a small thing, but anyone who has dumped a set of combination wrenches into a bag knows exactly why it matters. The Facom wrench holder is designed to carry ratcheting wrenches from 19mm down to 8mm in a neat, secure row, and on paper it looks like a genuinely clever solution. After spending real time loading it up with different wrench sets, though, the picture is more mixed: the concept is excellent, but the execution has a couple of issues worth knowing about before you spend your money.

Who This Product Is For

This holder is aimed at mechanics and tool users who want a compact, portable way to keep a full run of ratcheting wrenches organized, whether that is in a tool chest drawer, a service truck, or a bag carried to a job. It is clearly designed around Facom’s own ratcheting wrenches, and that matters more than it might first appear. If your wrenches are a different brand or thickness, the fit is not guaranteed.

How the Design Works

The core idea is simple and well thought out. The holder is essentially a plastic tube with a series of properly sized points along its length. Each wrench locks onto the sized part of the tube, then the handle drops down into a slot, holding it in place. For the larger wrenches in the range, it genuinely works well. Sliding in wrenches such as 17, 18, and 19mm is easy, they line up neatly, and they actually stay put, which is exactly what you want from a portable organizer.

There is a nice bonus here too: the holder is affordable as a standalone purchase, with the plastic housing available separately for around $25 if you just want the organizer without a wrench set.

Where the Sizing Falls Apart

Two problems show up as you move toward the smaller end. The first is the missing 15mm. For a holder that spans 19mm down to 8mm, skipping 15mm is a real gap, since 15mm is one of the most commonly used sizes. If 15mm is critical for your work, this holder simply cannot serve as your complete set.

The second issue is fit at the smaller sizes. As you work down past 14 and 13mm, the holder starts to get too tight. By the time you reach the 11mm, the wrench will not wedge in properly, and if you force the smaller wrenches in, the holder will not even close. The sized points also stretch noticeably with smaller wrenches. In practice, the upper half of the range works as intended while the lower half fights you.

Compatibility With Other Wrench Brands

Because the holder is sized specifically for Facom ratcheting wrenches, compatibility outside that ecosystem is limited. Testing showed the same fit problem with GearWrench ratcheting wrenches and with Icon wrenches. Standard non-ratcheting Snap-on combination wrenches did not work either, and even stubby wrenches were a little too thick. The smaller end of the tube simply will not accommodate them.

One possible workaround for the missing 15mm: if you are willing to sacrifice a 16mm position instead, you could modify the holder, but the 15mm does not fit the sized tube as-is, so you would need to grind down the tube itself to make room. That is a fair amount of effort for a $25 plastic organizer, and most buyers will not want to go there.

Should You Buy It?

This is the difficult part of the recommendation. If you own or plan to buy Facom ratcheting wrenches, the design could make sense, and the larger sizes in the range work nicely. The locking mechanism is genuinely good, and the idea of wrenches snapping onto a sized tube and staying put is exactly right for a portable organizer. Facom makes plenty of great tools, and the thinking behind this holder is solid.

But if your wrenches are from another brand, or if you need the full 19mm to 8mm range including a 15mm, this holder will likely frustrate you. The smaller sizes do not fit properly with non-Facom wrenches, and forcing them in prevents the holder from closing. For anyone using Snap-on, GearWrench, Icon, or standard combination wrenches, this is probably not the right organizer yet.

Buying Advice

Treat this holder as a Facom-specific accessory rather than a universal one. If your ratcheting wrenches are Facom and you can live without a dedicated 15mm slot, it is a nicely designed portable solution at a reasonable price. If not, it may be worth waiting for an organizer that either fits a wider range of wrench thicknesses or includes the full metric run. The search for a truly universal portable wrench organizer continues.

Conclusion

The Facom wrench holder gets the important things right: a clever locking design, a compact portable form, and secure storage for the larger wrenches in its range. What holds it back is the missing 15mm and sizing that only plays nicely with Facom’s own thinner ratcheting wrenches. It is a good idea that currently serves a narrow audience, and buyers with other wrench brands should look elsewhere until a more forgiving option comes along.
