EGO Two-Stage Snow Blowers: 24-Inch vs 28-Inch First Look

EGO's battery-powered two-stage snow blowers arrive in 24-inch and 28-inch sizes with turbo mode, heated grips, and self-propelled steering. Here is what sets them apart.

Introduction

EGO has been one of the strongest names in outdoor battery power equipment, and its newest two-stage snow blowers continue that run. The lineup arrives in two sizes, a 24-inch and a 28-inch, both running on two 56V 10Ah batteries with a dual-port rapid charger included. They are battery powered, so there are no fumes and no gas, just the sound of the augers turning.

Setup and First Impressions

Out of the box, some assembly is required. The top control arm, knobs, and wiring need to be attached, and the wires route through hidden brackets along the frame so nothing hangs loose. Snow shoes came pre-installed, which is a welcome touch since many brands leave that step to the owner. Extra shear pins are stored on the back of the machine, just like on most other snow blowers.

If you have a friend available to help with assembly, take the offer. It is manageable solo but easier with two people.

Both models include heated handle grips, a turbo button, an auger safety lever, and a joystick-style chute control. The body is mostly steel with plastic on top, and it feels heavy duty where it matters.

Power and Batteries

Each snow blower takes two 56V 10Ah batteries, the same large packs used on EGO mowers. Any EGO battery will work, including smaller 7.5Ah or 5Ah packs, but the 10Ah batteries give the longest run time. Charging happens through a dual-port rapid charger, so both packs are ready at once.

The 24-Inch Model

The 24-inch model is not a monster, but it is big enough to get the job done. It fits in a garage without eating a huge amount of space, which makes it a sensible pick for smaller driveways. The tires are a bit smaller than its bigger sibling but still meaty with nice tread, and the machine is easy to push around even with the power completely off.

It runs on two batteries, hits turbo mode at its top speed setting, and starts in eco before stepping up through the speed levels. A light button on the controls turns on two LED lights up top plus one near the tines, and those lower lights stay on whenever the machine is powered.

The 28-Inch Model

The 28-inch model is an absolute beast. The tires are wider and the treads are huge, which makes it much easier to handle in snow. The chute is noticeably larger as well, with a claimed 60 feet of throwing distance compared to the 24-inch’s claimed 50 feet.

This is the one for larger driveways and bigger snowfalls, and it is the model where EGO’s better hardware shows up most clearly.

Steering That Does the Work For You

The standout feature on both machines is the trigger-controlled steering. Instead of pushing down and twisting the handles, which strains your back, you push up on the levers and the wheels turn themselves independently. Go right, it turns right. Go left, it turns left. It feels a bit like a zero-turn experience and removes most of the fighting that comes with heavy two-stage machines.

Throwing Distance and Lights

The chute on the 28-inch model is motorized, so moving it left or right is done with a lever rather than cranking by hand. It sweeps the full range without slop and stays where you leave it instead of bouncing back. The chute direction and deflector both use one joystick, giving full up-down and side-to-side range of motion from a single control.

On lighting, the 28-inch model carries four LED lights: two up top and two down near the tines, which help when clearing in early morning or evening darkness.

Build Quality and Small Touches

The 28-inch chute uses a reinforced, very hard plastic that will not flex, while the 24-inch chute is a slightly lower grade but still good quality. Heated grips, turbo mode, eco mode, and reverse with a guard to prevent accidentally hitting high speed are all on the control panel. Both machines ship with extra shear pins stored on the rear.

Buying Advice

If your driveway is on the smaller side and storage space matters, the 24-inch is the practical choice. It is lighter on space, easier to move around, and still delivers full two-stage performance. If you face wide driveways, deep snow, or simply want the most capable machine, the 28-inch is worth the step up: bigger tires, a bigger chute, a motorized chute control, more lights, and that claimed 60-foot throw.

Conclusion

Both EGO two-stage snow blowers bring battery convenience, heated grips, turbo mode, and self-propelled trigger steering to a category that has long been dominated by gas. The 24-inch covers smaller driveways well, while the 28-inch is the serious machine for heavy snow. Whichever size fits your property, the battery platform means quieter operation, no fumes, and batteries shared with the rest of the EGO outdoor lineup.
