ECOVACS DEEBOT T90 Pro Omni Review: A Mid-Range Robot Vacuum That Excels

Introduction

The ECOVACS DEEBOT T90 Pro Omni is the highest-level model in the ECOVACS mid-range series, following last year’s T80 Pro with substantial upgrades across several metrics. Aesthetically, ECOVACS introduced an interesting change with this model, opting for a textured outer shell on both the base station and the robot itself to make it look softer and a little more domestic. It has a similar price to other mid-range robots like the Dreame L50, which is its most natural competitor.

Vacuuming Performance

The T90 is a really strong vacuum cleaner. It uses the latest version of ECOVACS Blast technology, and this generation is advertised as both stronger and quieter than last year’s T80. Its official suction makes a big leap over the earlier generation, claiming to nearly double it to 30,000 Pascals. High official numbers don’t always mean good real-life suction, but in bench tests, this model performed way above both the average and its main competitor. Airflow scores were also exceptionally high.

It did a great job at picking up debris of different sizes from the surfaces of both hard floors and carpets, making a very clean sweep in the first pass. In a carpet deep clean test, where sand and grit are embedded into medium pile carpet, the T90 did above the average. But where it really stood out was in hair management tests. For a pet hair pickup test, with 2.5-inch hairs flattened on carpet to mimic how a robot might encounter it in a real home, the T90 got a rare 100% score, removing all of the hair, much better than the average of 82%.

Hair Management

The T90 also handles long hair well, since hair wrapping around the main brush can limit the robot’s ability to agitate the floor and make the motor work too hard. The T90 uses ECOVACS Zero Tangle 4.0 single brush and fixed side brush, and it got a perfect score in a 7-inch hair tangle test with none of the hair wrapping.

Obstacle Avoidance

Obstacle avoidance was another huge pro and one area where ECOVACS knocked it out of the park as far as upgrades go. ECOVACS robots in the T-series have underperformed in this area in the past, so this was something to hope for improvement in. The updated obstacle avoidance system uses a combination of technologies: a single AI camera, 3D structured light, LED light assist, and 3D edge sensors. This system had a stellar result in obstacle avoidance, getting a nearly perfect score between regular tests and torture tests, avoiding 23 out of 24 possible objects.

This model is also built with threshold crossing in mind and is rated to cross a tiered threshold of 40 mm. In a threshold test, it was able to handle a single-step threshold of 32 mm, which is 1.25 inches.

Mopping Performance

Mopping was a strong pro. The T90 uses ECOVACS’ latest roller mopping system, the OZMO 3.0. Earlier versions of this mop system performed well. This new version has a longer roller than the earlier generations for a total of 10.6 inches or 27 cm. The roller extends outward for better edge cleaning along walls and furniture, and the roller spins at a rate of 200 RPM. It lifts 15 mm over carpet so the robot can vacuum and mop mixed floor types in a single run without wetting carpet fibers.

Importantly, it did this without leaving a lot of water behind on the floor, which can lead to visible streaking after it finally dries. The T90 had a very low water residue penalty. The Dock and Its Automations

The dock is a big pro. The most interesting feature upgrade in this dock is the power boost fast charging. This allows the robot to partially recharge itself while it washes the mop roller during a cleaning run, taking advantage of the time that the robot has to spend in the dock. Power boost on the T90 has gone up from 6% power boost charging that was on the X11 to 10% in just 3 minutes. This gives the T90 a huge advantage as far as battery life for large floor plans.

The dock also washes the mop by floating and spinning it in hot water at up to 167°F (75°C), and then dries it with 145°F (63°C) air. The dock automatically dispenses cleaning solution into the mop water, refills and empties the robot’s clean and dirty water tanks, and empties debris into a 2.5-liter disposable bag.

App and Smart Features

The app for ECOVACS is another pro. The app has all of the room settings, room and cleaning customizations, and scheduling features you would expect on a big brand. It also has more granular features that are nice to see, like mopping along the direction of the floor, along with an AI-powered cleaning agent and a voice assistant. The RGB camera is accessible in the app, supporting two-way video calls and live video monitoring, and the robot is Matter compatible.

Battery and Navigation

Battery and navigation efficiency were both a pro in testing. The robot got an above-average efficiency score of 1.7 minutes per 1% of battery life. The T90 uses embedded LiDAR, which brings the height of the robot down slightly because it doesn’t have a turret on top. The T90’s navigation performed at just above the average efficiency. This wasn’t amazing, but it was acceptable and it was an improvement in general for ECOVACS, which has sometimes had quirky navigation. It’s also possible that the navigation itself hasn’t improved so much as the obstacle avoidance, which might be contributing to better navigation outcomes.
