Durafix 1-in Impact Wrench Review: A 60V Jumbo Wrench That Falls Short
Hands-on trailer brake work revealed heavy vibration, inconsistent auto fastening modes, and a frozen anvil that derailed the whole job.
Introduction
Some tools earn their spot in the shop. Others make you regret the purchase before they even break. The Durafix 1-in Impact Wrench, a 60V jumbo-sized cordless impact wrench, landed in the second category during our trailer brake replacement project.
From the moment we picked it up, two things stood out: it is heavy, and it feels clunky. Out of all the 1-inch impact wrenches available, this is not the one we would reach for first. Those early impressions turned out to be more than first-look skepticism, and the full job only confirmed them.

Who This Product Is For
On paper, a 1-inch drive 60V impact wrench with multiple fastening modes should appeal to anyone working on heavy-duty fasteners: trailer maintenance, farm equipment, or heavy truck wheel service. The Durafix offers five fastening levels, with the owner’s manual listing output ranges that step up from roughly 200 to 300 at level one through 500 to 680 at level two and 800 to 1,000 and beyond at higher levels.
That spec sheet suggests a tool for serious fastening work. The reality we experienced suggests you should keep looking.
Our Experience Using It
While replacing the brakes on our trailer, problems surfaced early. By the third lug nut, it was clear the tool sends far too much vibration back to the user. By halfway through the first wheel, the feedback was blunt enough to summarize in two words, and by the time the wheel was off, our hands were nearly numb.
That level of vibration matters beyond comfort. It is not good for the batteries, and it is not good for the wiring or longevity of the tool itself. Even getting the batteries off after just two rims was significantly difficult, which should never be the case, and the constant shaking puts real abuse on the battery contacts and internal wiring.

The Fastening Modes Fall Short
The five fastening modes were the feature we most wanted to like. Level two, rated 500 to 680 in the manual, seemed like the right setting for tightening trailer lugs. In practice, the auto fastening did not work reliably. We had to pull the trigger multiple times, and the wheels were never getting close to the rated range.
Moving up to level three helped somewhat, but it hammered longer than needed and may have overtightened slightly. Even then, the tool still was not reaching 400 ft-lbs on level three. For a tool advertising output well beyond that, it was disappointing to say the least.
The Frozen Anvil Problem
Midway through the second tire, we caught what we thought was a bad stud. We hammered on it for quite some time, assuming the trailer’s stud threads were the problem. Only after removing everything did we realize the issue was the tool itself.

When we took it apart, the impacting mechanism and motor were fine. The problem was an anvil locked in place, frozen inside the tool. That stuck anvil was what slowed everything down and caused the poor performance across the whole job.
Should You Buy It?
If this tool cost $1,299, we would be very upset. That is roughly the price being discussed for it, and at that level there are established alternatives worth considering instead. Milwaukee models include vibration dampening in the battery area, which addresses exactly the problem that made this Durafix so unpleasant to use, and Ingersoll Rand has a long track record on heavy-duty 1-inch wrenches with a strong reputation to back it up.

If you are in the market for a 1-inch impact wrench and think this Durafix might be the one, our word of caution is simple: look elsewhere.
Conclusion
The Durafix 1-in Impact Wrench combines excessive vibration, fastening modes that do not hit their rated output, battery removal that should not be that difficult, and in our case a frozen anvil that brought the tool to a near standstill. For the kind of money this class of tool commands, brands with proven track records are the safer bet.
