Cadence Capsules Review: Durable Travel Containers Worth the Price?

A magnetic, waterproof, and nearly indestructible set of travel capsules that excel at organization but come with real weight and cost trade-offs.

Six colorful Cadence-style travel capsules connected in a honeycomb cluster on concrete

Introduction

Cadence Capsules are some of the most durable travel containers we have tested. They are not ultra-minimalist, but they are a genuinely effective way to organize liquids and smaller items, and their combination of magnetic modularity, waterproofing, and customization makes them stand out from typical travel bottles. The question is whether that durability and polish justify the price.

Design and Customization

Each capsule is a recycled plastic container with a removable, magnetic label on the lid. Ordering through the website lets you choose labels from a dropdown list or add your own custom label, and pick a color for each container. That makes color coding by theme practical: yellow for sunscreen, red for medications, lavender for laundry, and blue for shower items like toothpaste, shampoo, and hair gel so you can grab the right ones on the way to the shower.

The set arrives in a small box with a personalized note and a card that can be planted and grows into wildflowers, which adds a nice touch to the unboxing experience.

Waterproofing and Everyday Function

The lid seals very tight and is completely waterproof. A rubber ring runs around the lid and seals perfectly with the main container, so liquids stay in and dry items stay dry. You can dunk these in water all day without leaks, which is reassuring whether you are packing laundry soap or expensive cosmetics.

Because there are no ridges around the lid, they can be slightly harder to open than bottles like a small Nalgene with a ridged cap. Some individual lids are stickier than others: the red one is noticeably harder to open than the purple one. Still, there is enough texture that you can open them even when covered in soap and wet. One clever detail is the rounded bottom, which fits the contour of a finger and helps you get the last of the liquid or gel out, unlike most containers with sharp corners.

Magnets and Modular Stacking

Built-in magnets in the side of each container and in the lid create a hexagonal honeycomb design, letting you take the capsules apart and reassemble them in multiple combinations. The labels are also removable and magnetic, so you can swap or replace them, and the lid sticks to the side of the container so it does not get lost.

The magnets hold well when the capsules are grouped together, but they can fail when only two are connected, especially when the containers are full. A stacked arrangement started failing at four containers. A few labels have also popped off the lid on occasion, though this is uncommon.

Specs and Weight Trade-Offs

Capacity is 0.56 ounces per capsule, and each weighs 1.3 ounces. The set of six weighs almost 8 ounces empty, nearly half a pound. The magnets built into the sides and lids are the main reason for the weight, and the thick sidewalls also reduce usable capacity compared with lighter options.

For comparison, a 0.47-ounce GoToob-style tube weighs 4 grams and a one-ounce Nalgene container weighs 10 grams, while an empty Cadence capsule weighs 38 grams. The price is also steep: a build-your-own set of six costs $84 even without customization.

Things to Consider Before Buying

Durability is where these earn their reputation. They score a full 10 out of 10 for toughness: drop them, stand on them, or even run them over with a car. After being driven over, a capsule showed only a slight bend in the lid, still worked exactly as before, and remained waterproof.

Travel capsule used as a compact jewelry case with a ring and cotton ball inside

That makes them ideal for products you use in small amounts, like toothpaste or hair gel, and for expensive products that do not come in travel sizes, like cosmetics. They are also excellent as a miniature safe for jewelry such as rings or earrings, since a cotton ball inside keeps items from rattling around. However, 0.56 ounces only lasts three to four days for items like sunscreen, shampoo, or conditioner, so longer trips mean refilling.

Buying Advice

Buy Cadence Capsules if you value durability, waterproofing, and customization, and if you mostly carry small quantities of liquids or want to protect small valuables. Skip them if you need lots of capacity or count every gram in your pack, since lighter and cheaper alternatives do that job better.

Conclusion

The Cadence Capsules are highly customizable, 100% waterproof, modular, and nearly indestructible, with an aesthetic that most travel bottles cannot match. They are heavy and expensive, and the magnets could be stronger, but for organizing small amounts of liquids or safeguarding jewelry on the road, they are the most durable travel containers you can get.
