AVA Master P80 Pressure Washer Review: Thoughtful Design Meets Serious Power

A 160 bar pressure washer from Norway with a hose reel that actually works, a clever low-force trigger, and a kit that covers patios, cars, and everything in between.

Introduction

Most pressure washers follow the same basic formula, so it is refreshing to come across one that clearly started from a design brief rather than a parts catalogue. The AVA Master P80 comes from Norway, and it is the largest model in the company’s Master range, which also includes the 60 and 70 variants. The number in the name reflects the pressure class, and the P80 delivers up to 160 bar.

The Master range starts at around £390, so this is not an entry-level purchase. After putting it through a full session on patios and car cleaning, the main question is whether the thoughtful details justify the price. In short, they mostly do.

Design and First Impressions

Straight out of the box, several things stand out. Although the unit is largely plastic like most pressure washers in this class, the plastic is heavyweight and chunky, and it is obvious someone spent real time on the design. Everything has a home, including dedicated slots for the nozzles and accessories, so nothing rattles around loose in storage.

Pressure washer lance extension being extended with fittings locked in place

The lance comes in two sections. You can use it as a short pistol grip on its own, or attach the extension with a standard fitting that locks in place so it cannot work loose. Notably, even the extension itself can extend by another 300 to 400 mm, which is not something commonly seen and is genuinely useful when working at different heights or reaching low to the ground.

The trigger deserves special mention. Pulling it back takes noticeable force, roughly as you would expect, but there is a small secondary trigger in the middle that lets you hold it with only a fraction of the effort, perhaps 100 g instead of around a kilogram. It works a bit like the let-off on a compound bow, and it makes long cleaning sessions far less tiring. Anyone who has wired up a trigger because their hand ached after five minutes will appreciate this immediately.

The kit includes a rotating nozzle, a variable nozzle, a boxed patio cleaner, and a foam dispenser attachment for car washing. Everything clicks into a defined spot on the unit, which reinforces the sense that this was designed as a system rather than a bundle.

The Hose Reel

One of the main reasons to choose this model is the hose reel. It carries a 10 m steel-reinforced hose, which is long enough to cover a generous working area without constantly moving the unit. The reel swings from side to side to follow you as you work, but it can also be locked in place if you prefer it fixed.

Anyone who has fought with a stiff pressure hose that never winds up properly or hangs awkwardly off the unit after a session will understand the appeal. Here, the hose simply winds back onto the reel, and the whole thing stores tidily on the trolley. At 30 kg, the trolley is not optional; you would not want to carry this unit far, but the wheels make it easy to move around the garden and stow away.

As with most pressure washers, all the fittings are straightforward and essentially foolproof, so there is no realistic way to connect things the wrong way round or to the wrong port.

Cleaning the Patio

Testing started with the variable nozzle, which adjusts the spray from a narrow 20° jet to a wider 60° fan. Used somewhere in the middle, it had plenty of power to strip grime from paving. With the lance nearly fully extended, it was possible to stand upright while still getting the nozzle close to the ground, which makes a long session considerably more comfortable.

The trade-off with the variable nozzle is pace. The narrow jet cuts through dirt well, but covering ground takes time because the spray is so focused.

Patio being cleaned with a boxed patio cleaner attachment, water spray contained

Switching to the rotating nozzle delivers similar cleaning power across a wider path. As with any rotating nozzle, movement speed matters: sweep too quickly and the surface does not come fully clean.

The most convenient option, though, is the boxed patio cleaner. Working with one is a bit like vacuuming indoors: push it over the surface, and the contained spray does the rest. Because the spray is enclosed, boots and trousers stay dry by the end of the session. This one performs well, and the skirt keeps water from spraying everywhere. The foam visible around the edges is simply clean water frothing up, not detergent.

Since the pistol grip removes easily from the top of the lance, it was easy to detach it for a quick rinse-down of the area after the main clean.

Washing the Car

The foam dispenser bottle, filled with a mix of car cleaner and water, produces a very wide spray when used with the lance, although there is no adjustment for it. Fitting it directly onto the pistol grip instead proved easier to use.

Either way, the result is a satisfying snow foam style coverage over the whole car, and then a rinse with the variable nozzle set to the wide 60° low-pressure setting. At 160 bar, care is needed here. Staying back from the panels and keeping the pressure moderate is essential to avoid damaging paint.

Car covered in snow foam ready to be rinsed off

The combination of the foam dispenser and the long, extendable lance genuinely changes the experience of washing a car. It feels more professional and less like a chore.

One thing to note: the kit also includes a microfiber brush for wiping the car after the foam stage, which is easy to forget in the excitement of rinsing. Foam alone does not finish the job, so factor that step in for a proper result.

Final Thoughts

The AVA Master P80 is very, very powerful, and the design quality shows in the details: the low-force trigger, the extendable lance, the swinging hose reel, and the stowage for every accessory. Power does demand respect, particularly around car paint, but that is true of any machine in this pressure class.

At a Master range starting price of around £390, it sits above budget machines, and the hose reel, long steel-reinforced hose, and complete accessory kit are what set it apart. For anyone planning regular patio cleaning and car washing, the practical design makes it easy to recommend.

Conclusion

The AVA Master P80 is a well-engineered pressure washer that solves the everyday annoyances most brands ignore. The swinging hose reel, the effortless trigger hold, and the extendable lance add up to a machine that is genuinely pleasant to use session after session. If your cleaning routine includes patios, cars, and plenty of hose to store, this is a strong contender worth a close look.
